I’m Mark Spittler the owner of GS Extreme Custom T-shirts. And what we do at GS Extreme is we do custom T-shirt screen printing and we make custom clothes and other items.
I’m located in Freeport, Illinois, so I’m a Midwesterner. I focus on selling T-shirts to people who sell their shirts to others at events.
My company, GS Extreme, was founded back around 2006, so I’ve been at this T-shirt business for over 12 years.
I’m a Veteran and I served from 1978-82. I was a U.S. Air Force Veteran Crew Chief and a T-38 Trainer. I was stationed in Arizona.
After I got out of the Air Force, I decided to start as just a T-shirt salesman. And after I tried to have my T-shirts printed repeatedly by a couple other screen printers, I found that to be a losing effort. The screen printers let me down time and time again. And this may actually happen in your business if you’re looking to have stuff printed for you. You know what I mean
So I decided, “I’m going to take this on as my own personal thing and I’m going to learn to print.” So that’s what I did.
And shortly after I started to print, I got associated with a bar owner and the bar owner gave me a little spot to set up my press, and so I went into the printing business and selling my T-shirts side-by-side.
My first customer was the Iron Horse Social Club in Savanna, Illinois, and they’re still a customer today.
So I slowly transitioned away from Mark having his own little T-shirt shop and printing for myself to printing for other customers.
From there, word of mouth grew the business. I’ve made T-shirts for everything from kids’ events, fundraisers, bars and pubs, used car lots, biker rallies, Daytona Bike Week, Sturgis, bands, cancer charities, sport teams, high school events and it just keeps building.
Then, once I started hitting it off with the musicians that came to town to play, the musicians and the people who knew them spread the word about GS Extreme T-shirts. Today, I have customers across the U.S.A. from Illinois to Florida, Louisiana, Texas, California, New York, Arizona, and we just keep growing.
